Happy spring!! It’s been a minute since I posted on here. I wanted to share my experience at Quiltcon. This was my first year attending, and it was so much fun! Quiltcon is a national quilt convention that is held annually in the United States, and organized by the Modern Quilt Guild. This year it took place in Phoenix, AZ from February 20-23. I arrived the day before the event and attended all four days.

Quiltcon was held at the Phoenix Convention Center. The event was full of sewing vendors, award winning quilts on display, and classes and lectures you can sign up for in advance. I attended 3 lectures and one class, including one of the lectures presented by one of the Denver Metro Quilt Guild members!

The class I attended was a Needle Turn Applique class, where I learned how to hand sew applique on fabric. This is a useful (but a little challenging) skill, and I hope to use it on my quilts eventually.

For most of the event, I walked around the convention center to check out all the quilts on display and shopped at the vendors. There were so many quilts and vendors, that you can’t see everything in one day so I definitely spaced it out and can took my time to see everything in four days.

I bought a lot of goodies from a few of my favorite vendors including Ruby Star Society, and bought some fabrics and crafting supplies from a few other booths.

I really enjoyed checking out all the quilts that were on display, including quilts that were made from a few members of the Denver Modern Quilt Guild. I also spotted a few quilters that I follow on social media, and I was very excited to see their award winning quilts up at the front. I included pics of some of my favorite quilts I saw.

Of course, I wish I can post them all! I received so much inspiration from looking at all the quilts. I also loved seeing so many people dressed in quilted garments, including jackets and dresses. I wore my handmade quilted vest for a couple of the days.

I also had a great time meeting new fellow quilters, and hanging out with some of the quilt guild members (Denver Metro) that also attended Quiltcon, and attended happy hours and lunch/dinner gatherings.
The Community Quilt that was made and quilted by multiple Denver Guild members (including me) a few months ago, was also on display at Quiltcon, and our group got a picture right in front. I am so happy and grateful I was a part of this project!

This was also my first time in Phoenix. I didn’t get a chance to explore much of the City, but I was able to walk around a little and ate at a few local restaurants and checked out a couple shops and galleries. I definitely want to come back and explore more of Arizona.

Overall, Quiltcon was a great experience but also a bit overwhelming in a good way! I met so many new people and saw so many inspiring quilters. I highly recommend it for anyone who is a quilter or crafter. Next year, Quiltcon will be held in Raleigh NC (where it was held last year), that I would love to attend, and perhaps I will submit one of my quilts for the show!
